Innovation through meaningful product design
You want to develop a new product or give your existing portfolio an upgrade?
In short, you want to get ahead. Staying one strategic step ahead of the pack. How? Through meaningful product design. With products that are functionally superior and that take your brand to a higher level.
As an external partner we guide this process step by step. We investigate what is already available on the market. What can be improved? And especially: we pick the brain of your target group. What are the needs of your users or other stakeholders? Idea clearly defined, visualised and extensively tested? Then production is next. But only once we’re certain that every invested euro will yield a return following launch.
Strategic advice
Design briefing is an essential part of the design process. What is it exactly that you wish to achieve? Which aspects do you want to tackle? Functionality, technique, user-friendliness or sustainability…? What are your ambitions? What does your brand promise say? This strategic preliminary research uses various tools ranging from focus groups, IoT workshops, trend watching and feasibility studies to brainstorming sessions, …

Analysis
How do you set yourself apart from the competition at the conclusion of an innovation journey? By starting with a new insight early on in the process. Thorough analysis with one outcome: a detailed package of demands in order to make the difference. Does the product meet user demands? What is technically feasible? What about budget? Does the design result in sustainability? Without analysis it is impossible to jump to the next level.

Concept development
In this phase we translate idea into design. We juxtapose a selection of ideas and construct an optimum combination of solutions. Through explorative sketching, design language, initial prototypes and price calculations we arrive at a design fix. This is a concept we can test for feasibility. Now we are ready to focus on the design details in the engineering phase.

Engineering
A manufacturable product. That is the goal of this phase. The questions that were also on the table in the analysis phase are now made concrete through CAD, 3D prototyping, rendering or VR, for instance. Important question: does the prototype still meet the original list of requirements? At the end of this phase we have a working prototype and all manufacturing techniques and components are identified.

Production
Is everything clear from a technical standpoint? Before we go into production a check and double-check are absolutely crucial. After thorough testing we can finally give the green light. Ready? Not by a long shot. We leave no stone unturned: we deliver production files, follow up production, elaborate manufacturing instructions, carry out quality management and control… For this we work with your production team and we can also call on our own network of trusted suppliers.

Start-ups
Xtend®
Pars Pro Toto helped launch several start-ups. One of them is Xtend®, a suitcase that doubles as a travel cot. At least, that was the original idea two entrepreneurs had. The end result? Xtend®, the first ‘expandable smart suitcase’. A typical Pars Pro Toto project that we co-piloted as soon as it hit the runway. It is this synergy between the principal and designers that generates strategic innovation.
